When news of Tim’s death reached me in the central mountains of Arizona I was skateboarding in pools again. Going fast and high for extended periods of time helps you enter an altered state of consciousness and in those sessions of skating with Tim again, we got to have some conversations together. He encouraged me to keep writing, keep performing, keep making art; and I saw his spirit running through the mountains of the Jefferson County Memorial forest in what I understand as his bliss body. In his spirit bliss body he could actualize, finally, the speed of his spirit without the limits of dense matter.

The tracks of this album are sourced from some tape trading and recording session work we did sporadically between 1996 and 2003; mixed with new and old contributions by myself, Benjamin Herning, Jennifer Starks, and Boyd McGuinnis. Tim and I had started referring to our project as De Naagas, in reference and reverence to the water snake spirits or nagas. Our projects moved beyond using recording devices to create pieces meant for entertainment and instead was focused on creating charmed psychic shields/weapons/enclosures/dwelling places/beings/foods/talismans to help us carve out a space for a different type of consciousness and style of living to flourish. I am continuing that approach with The Animist Lodge and these pieces are offered in honor of his passing; my long time friend and collaborator on a unique approach to life, consciousness, and art as potent life.
