The Animist Lodge Presents: Astral Mountain Radio, an audio imagining

The Animist Lodge digs beneath the Astral Mountain to find the workshop of the demiurgos Hephaestos. In this audio imagining The Animist Lodge creates an atmosphere to explore the Reality of Hephaestos’s workshop where the craftsman, in his solitude, suffering, and focus, creates his golden helpers to construct the Dodecahedral Cosmos. Inspiration for this audio imagining were provided by Rod Blackhirst’s article “Metallurgy and Demiurgy – The Roots of Greek Alchemy in the Mythology of Hephaestos (Discussions)” in the book Alchemical Traditions, published by Rubedo Press 2013.

Sound sources for this piece created for radio include: New Animist Lodge mixes and commentary by Sean McLoughlin exploring the questions “What is a recording device?” and “What is a recording?”, unpublished audio/visual collaborations by Tim Ruth and Sean McLoughlin as The Astral Mountain Gnomes, field recrodings from Benjamin Herning, vocals by Timothy McLoughlin.

The Animist Lodge remains committed to using recording devices and recordings for purposes outside of the creation of human entertainment, advertisements, and surveillance. What is a recording device? What is a recording?
